Tawang is the nature’s wonder right here in the North Eastern part of India. It is located around 185 kms from Bomdila and is at an altitude of 3025 m above sea level. The inhabitants of the district are the Monpa Tribes. The major festivals celebrated by Monpas are Losar and Torgya.

How to reach Tawang?

The nearest airport to Tawang is Salonibari Airport in Tezpur, Assam. However if you are completing an entire circuit in Arunachal, reach Guwahati from Delhi in around 3 hrs. From Guwahati, the route will follow as Guwahati – Bhalukpong – Dirang – Tawang .

Best time to visit Tawang

We visited Tawang in the month of March. Although there would be no snow in the main city, but once you start your journey towards Bumla, be prepared to be amazed with beauty of snow covered Bumla Paas.

1. Bumla Paas

Bumla Paas at an altitude of 15200 ft , tops the list in must visit places. In the month of March, it was quite unexpected for entire route to be covered in fresh snow. I was fortunate enough to witness first snowfall of my life at Bumla Paas border. Be prepared to carry heavy woolens , and it is must to have a Inner line permit .

2. Khinmey Nyagma Monastery

Khinmey Nyagma Monastery is located in the village of Khinmey near the headquarters of Tawang district. Surrounded by mountains on all sides, the monastery is well worth a visit. So, do take sometime out to visit this 600 years old unexplored gem. Watch our interaction with one of the Monk of this Monastery in the video below. 3. Sela Paas

Sela Paas is a high mountain paas located on the border between Tawang and West Kameng. This popular tourist attraction is usually jam packed with snow lovers , undoubtfully in Sela paas, you will notice pool of cloud covering space between the mountains

4. Jung Falls

Jung Falls or Nuranang falls is one of the most spectacular waterfall in the country yet it is unknown to many travelers.

5. Buddha Park

Buddha park is located right in the main city and a huge magnificent statue of Buddha can be seen here. Not only this, you also get a beautiful view of Tawang city and tawang monastery from the park.

6. Tawang Monastery

Ity is the largest monastery in the India and is second largest in the world. It is situated on the mountain in the main town of Tawang at an altitude of 3000 m.
