Senso-Ji

Senso-Ji or Asakusa Kannon Temple is the oldest Buddhist temple in Tokyo, Japan. It is dedicated to Kannon Bosatsuthe, Bodhisattva of compassion. Wikipedia.

While approaching the temple, first you pass through Kaminarimon or the thunder gate. It is the outer gate of the temple and inside is the main hall and five-storeyed pagoda. The temple is literally quite colorful and popular as well.

According to legends, the statue of Kannon(the goddess of mercy) was found in 628 AD in the Sumida river by two fisherman brothers Hinokuma Hamanari and Hinokuma Takenari. The chief of the village recognized the sanctity of the statue and enshrined it. He remodeled his own house into a temple in Asakusa so the people can workshop the statue.

Interesting story right !! And yes it is among the most visited temples, so do not miss it during your trip to Japan.

Teamlab Borderless

Google Teamlab borderless is a digital art exhibition. It is known for famous artwork, bustling sparkling colors, and flowers blooming from every direction.

One visit might take you to an icy blue fantasy while in the next you may see the room glowing with different hues of blue and green. There is countless artwork in the museum and you can spend hours here. The most famous one is the forest of resonating lamps.

Tokyo DisneySea

It’s a theme park in the city of Tokyo, Japan. There are currently 7 themed lands or ports of call. Mediterranean Harbour, Mysterious Island, Mermaid Lagoon, Arabian Coast, Lost river delta, Port Discovery, and Americal waterfront.

This sounded really interesting to me and its definitely on my list during trip to Japan. The city of Tokyo is known for such unique experiences, which are not experienced anywhere else In Japan. And that is the reason I am puting these places in the top to explore in Tokyo. There are plenty of other such places which we will see in next section of the article.

Robot Restaurant

It’s a theme restaurant featuring a pop culture show with robotic monsters, dancers, and lasers. I have researched a lot about this place, first that it has nothing to do with robots. Dancers and musician dress up as monsters, aliens and there is huge light show with enormous loud pop music.

So this is kinda optional place to visit, depending upon your choice . However, it would be an unique experience and moreover there have been many good reviews of this place. So I am adding this place too on the top places to explore in Tokyo.

Cosplay Go-Karting

Now, this is one of my favorite and is a top thing to do in Tokyo. So if you ever dreamt of driving a go-kart of the roads of Japan, it will now come true. So these cart rental companies let you drive through the city of Tokyo wearing your favorite costume. All you need is an international driving permit.

The short course is 35 mins driving time and the popular course is of around 90 min driving time. You can check out more on their website. But for sure this sounds like one of the most fun things to do anywhere. The package includes a quick go-cart lesson, costume, fuel, helmet, tour guide driver, and also accident insurance.

Tokyo Skytree

With a height of 634 meters, it is the second tallest tower in the world after Burj Khalifa(828 meters). The highlights of this tower are two observatory decks located at 350 and 450 m. From here you can get a 360-degree view of the city of Tokyo.

The construction of steel and glass windows allows visitors to look down from drizzling height of tower.

Akihabara

Akihabara is known for inexpensive electronic shops, maid cafes, owl cafes and much more. Yodobashi Camera Akihabara is a large-scale electronic emporium that sells gadgets and tech products known among both local and international customers.

Don Quijote emporium is a Japan-wide range of discount stores known for interesting merchandise. Akihabara Gachapon Kaikan seels eleborate capsule toys. Capsule toy dispensers can be seen throughout the city of Japan. You can also explore Akhiba Fukuro Cafe where you can pose with Owls. Aah, this all sounds like an typical unique Japanese vaction ideas !!!!

Japan is always ahead in technology and I am sure there is a lot of tech stuff and gadgets we can find in the electronic market of Japan. And hence I have placed Akihabara in the top places to explore in Tokyo, Japan.

Meji Shrine

Meji Shrine is dedicated to Emperor Meji and his wife Empress Shoken. The Shrine is quite spacious and is located amidst the concrete jungle right between Tokyo’s busiest districts Shinjuku and Shibuya. The relaxing stroll of 10 mins lets you pass through the Meji Jingu Forest.

The entrance to the forest is marked with a huge archway called torii. Unlike many other torii gates, this one is not painted orange and black. The shrine doesn’t contain Emperor’s grave which is located in South Tokyo. The two main areas of the Shrine are Naien and Gaien. Naien is the inner area that includes a treasure museum. Gaien is an outer area that has Meji memorial picture gallery.
