Harsil, the Himalayan paradise, is a village located on the banks of the Bhagirathi river on the way to Gangotri. It is famous as a Hindu pilgrimage site in the Uttarkashi district of the Indian state of Uttarakhand. Harsil lies around 78 km from Uttarkashi and is just 30 km away from Gangotri National Park.
Most of you must be hearing about this place first time, just as I heard during my Uttarkashi trip. But believe me, once you take a tour of this place, this will be on top of your list.
Along with Harsil, you can also explore Khedi Waterfall in Uttarkashi, which must be on your list.
How to reach Harsil?
Harsil can be easily reached from Uttarkashi. Uttarkashi is around 398 km from Delhi and can be covered through self-drive as well. The first day I stayed at Rishikesh and the next day early morning left for Uttarkashi. From Uttarkashi, on the Gangotri road lies this beautiful hamlet Harsil. If you don’t prefer self-drive, private and shared taxis are also available. But due to good road conditions in the entire Uttrakhand, I preferred self-drive and didn’t face any issues.
How is the route to Harsil?
Route to Harsil is quite mesmerizing. Not just the view but even the road condition was good. It can be visited in a single day, make sure to leave early in the morning. Check out this complete video to get a glimpse of this beautiful and heavenly route.
What to do around?
Do not forget to buy beautiful woolen clothing collection in main market area. I bought 7 to 8 beautiful caps for myself. Check out the video below to look into the amazing collection.
Explore near by villages, starting from center village. Camps are also available so you can stay for a day or two for an impeccable experience.
The main market of Harsil is full of colorful wall paintings. All-around you can see homestays and restaurants. Mostly Harsil acts as base camp for some of the treks such as Dayara Bugyal, Khatling Glacier. Along with Rock Climbing in Gangotri.
The Route to Harsil is itself an adventure, which you can see yourself in my videos. Enroute Gangotri from Harsil(Uttarkashi), is covered in dense Oak and Deodar Forests and is a place where nature greets with warm embrace.
Don’t listen to what they, go and see it**
