Traveling to Norway, with its breathtaking landscapes, vibrant cities, and the chance to witness the stunning Northern Lights, is a dream for many. If you’re planning to visit Norway from India, the first step is to secure a Schengen visa. In this blog post, I’ll share my personal experience of applying for a Norway visa, which turned out to be the quickest visa approval I’ve ever received. Despite hearing mixed reviews about the Norway Embassy, my process was smooth and hassle-free. With careful preparation and attention to detail, you too can make your visa application experience a positive one.
Whether you’re visiting Norway for tourism, to see family, or for business, this guide will walk you through each step of the visa application process, from gathering your documents to booking your appointment at the VFS Global center. I’ll also provide tips and insights to help you avoid common pitfalls, ensuring your visa file is complete and your chances of approval are high. Let’s get started!
- Choosing the Embassy: You decided to apply through the Norway Embassy despite mixed reviews online. Your visa was processed very quickly—within two working days.
- General Advice: The key to a successful visa application is ensuring that your visa file and checklist are complete and accurate. Missing or incorrect documents can increase the risk of rejection.
- Visa Application Steps:
- Visit the VFS Global website to start your application.
- You will be redirected to the UDI website (Norwegian Directorate of Immigration) for the actual application.
- Select the type of visa (e.g., Visitor Visa for tourism).
- Follow the checklist provided on the website, which outlines all required documents, including a passport, recent photographs, signed application form, medical insurance, confirmed travel bookings, and more.
- Preparing Documents:
- Ensure your passport is valid, and carry previous passports if applicable.
- Your photo should be recent (not older than six months) with a white background.
- Attach proof of travel insurance and travel bookings (airline tickets, accommodation, etc.).
- If employed, provide pay slips, bank statements, and a leave approval letter from your employer.
- For independent travelers, include a detailed cover letter explaining your travel purpose and a daily itinerary.
- Cover Letter and Itinerary:
- Your cover letter should outline your travel purpose, the countries you plan to visit, and the duration of stay in each country.
- Provide employment details, company address, and job title.
- Attach a detailed travel plan (itinerary), including flight details, hotel reservations, and activities for each day.
- Booking an Appointment:
- After preparing all documents, book an appointment through VFS Global.
- Choose your location and time slot carefully. Morning appointments are advisable to avoid long queues.
