Sarahan, a tiny hamlet is located in shimla district, at an elevation of, 6900 feet. It is immensely popular among locals for Bhimkali Temple, which is one of the oldest building in the village and is a significant pilgrimage site. In this article, we will see some hidden unexplored places to visit in Sarahan.
Must visit Places
Bhimkali Temple
At a distance of 165 km from Shimla, Bhimkali temple is located at Sarahan in Himachal Pradesh. Bhimkali temple is around 800 years old and is a major pilgrimage site. Also, this temple is among 51 Shakti peeth in the country. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga, locally known as Bhimkali. So, this place must be on top your list of Himachal Package.
Tashi Dhirgey Ling Nagma Monastery
Tashi Dhirgey Ling Nagma is a hidden monastery in Sarahan, accessible only through a short hike through the village. We came across this monastery while hiking through the village. This monastery had a beautiful prayer hall, also had rooms for the stay of Monks. Most of the younger monks were studying outside, and some of them were busy in their daily chores.
King Queen Palace
Explore king queen palace in Sarahan, although the main palace is closed for tourist, but you can take a look from outside. Mostly during festivals, the palace is opened when royal family visits.
Back view of Bhimkali Temple
Once you walk through king queen palace road, you will come across the most beautiful back view of Bhimkali temple, facing the snow capped Himalayas. The main entrance to the temple doesn’t offer this view, and most of the people do not know how to get to this location. This is the view of the temple which you will come across everywhere on Internet.
Bodh Vihar – Unexplored Monastery Sarahan
This was another beautiful monastery we visited in Sarahan, locals helped us and guided us to reach till here. The main prayer hall was closed, and there was no name mentioned on the main door of the prayer hall. This monastery is not even listed anywhere online, because during our research on places to visit in Sarahan, we found nothing except Kinnaur Bodh Vihar. [I doubt if the name of this Monastery was Kinnaur Bodh Vihar].
The view from here is totally breathtaking. Check out the video to know how to reach till here.
Pheasantry
Sarahan Peasantry is another must visit place, which is Western Tragopan conservation site and breeding center as well. During our visit, the Peasantry was closed due to a public holiday, so we couldn’t explore it much. However, do watch the video to know more about the Pheasantry.
Hotel Shrikhand
Shrikhand is a hotel with accommodation and also has a restaurant for outside people. The hotel gets it name as Shrikhand, because you get a beautiful of Shrikhand peak and 360 view of Sarahan valley from their Outdoor garden.
Explore Sarahan market
You should definitely explore the market of Sarahan which is another must do activity. You can buy local shawls, caps and woolen items. Also, do not forget to taste the momos and thukpa. Most of the market of Sarahan is right at the Bhimkali temple, and you will find almost everything here which you may need(Check out frame 3:16 for the tour of the Market).
To explore Sarahan at its best, it’s my advice to stay close to Bhimkali temple.
Don’t listen to what they, go and see it**
