2 Day Itinerary To City Of Lakes And Palaces- Udaipur

Posted on 17th August 201919th June 2020

We all get one thought when we hear Udaipur, the city full of lakes and palaces. Indeed, its a really beautiful place for a weekend getaway from Delhi. The good news is you don’t need long leaves to explore this place. Let me share my experience and complete the Udaipur itinerary.

Day 0: Friday night

Reaching Udaipur:

We boarded the Rajasthan tourism bus from Delhi at 21:15 and the next day 7:15 reached Udaipur. From the dropping point till Zostel we hired an auto which cost us 300 bucks. I would suggest check for cabs, we didn’t check for one assuming Ola doesn’t work there :(.

Day 1: Saturday

Budget Stay at Zostel:

We checked into Zostel, that’s our home for the day. It’s a great place for a budget stay. Zostel rooftop restaurant has amazing food plus an amazing view of the city. Single bed for one night in the dorm will cost you around 600 bucks. Do check rates on their website as well.

How to commute?

We hired scooty, you can easily rent one here. They will charge the deposit amount and rent for the day. As per my experience, Udaipur can be best explored on a two-wheeler and is a cheaper mode of transport also compared to hiring a taxi.

Top places to explore:

1. The Grand City Palace

City Palace is a huge architecture built atop a hill. Make sure you have ample amount of time to cover the entire palace. Consider having 2 hours approx. It provides a panoramic view of Udaipur city, and its surroundings overlooking Lake Pichola, Lake palace, monsoon palace, and few other historic monuments.

2. Bagore ki Haweli

This place is just 1.9 miles from City palace and would hardly take 3 to 4 mins drive. We at first thought of skipping this place but it turned out to be a decent place to spend some time photographing.

Rather than going inside the museum, we decided to spend time outside at the waterfront. The museum is right on the waterfront of Lake Pichola and gives an amazing view of Lake Palace. Udaipur will never fail to mesmerize you with its picture-some locations.

In the evening haveli lightens and stages enjoyable performance of traditional dance and Rajasthani music, you can surely watch it if interested.

3.Ambrai Ghat

Ambrai Ghat is another gem of Udaipur. It is situated near the waterfront of Lake Pichola. It is popular for the Ambrai restaurant and picturesque view of Lake Palace. It’s a beautiful place for a couple of photoshoots also. You can catch some of the best street arts here.

Day 2:

1.Monsoon Palace

Also known as Sajjan Garh Palace is built on a hilltop. You can reach here by two-wheeler as well. Also, there are paid taxis available from the entrance near the ticket window. The entire drive passes through a lush green area on both sides along with an amazing hill view. Along with the beautiful palaces build around the lakes, Udaipur has some beautiful and huge palaces built on the top of the hill.

2. Saheliyo ki Bari

Saheliyo ki Bari means the Garden of Maids. It has fountains, a lotus pool, and marble elephants. It is located on the bank of Fateh Sagar lake. The place is really beautiful, you will find lots and lots of fountains here. The ideal time you can spend here is an hour. Since the garden is pretty huge and of course you would not want to miss getting clicked here.

3. Fateh sagar Lake:

This artificial lake of Udaipur is constructed under the reign of Maharana. Boating on the blue waters of the lake is overlooked by mountains from 3 sides. Drive around the lake is in itself an amazing experience.
